Beschrijving
Sophia on a boat (Owl) is an abstract sculpture of an owl seen from the front that turns into an ancient boat at the back. The owl stands for Sophia, wisdom, a central idea in Hellenistic philosophy, Platonism, Gnosticism and Christian theology. Originally meaning cleverness or skill, the word took on its sense of wisdom through Plato’s use of philosophy, the love of sophia. In the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches Holy Wisdom, Hagia Sophia, refers to God the Son, as in the dedication of the church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople.
