Statue of the Egyptian god Bes was discovered in Amathous. Bes, also Bisu or Aha, was an ancient Egyptian dwarf god, both deity and demon fighter. He was a god of war, yet also a patron of childbirth and the home, and of humour, music and dance. Starting as a protector of the pharaoh, he became very popular with ordinary Egyptians, as he protected women and children above all. He had no temples or priests, yet appeared on furniture, mirrors, cosmetic containers, magic wands and knives.
