Found at Gytheion, Lakonia. The relief has the form of a naiskos (a small temple in classical order with columns or pillars and pediment) with pilasters and an epistyle. According to the inscription on the epistyle, Sosikrates dedicated his daughter Agathokleia to Demeter and Persophone. Demeter is depicted at the centre of the representation, seated on a round base (or cista mystica), in front of which is Cerberus, the guardian of Hades. In her right hand, she holds the hand of the standing Persephone. The male figure next to Demeter is Plouton or most probably the dedicator Sosikrates. The latter’s daughter, Agathokleia, is depicted on a smaller scale at the left.
