This is a copy of an original Romn marble portrait of the future emperor Caracalla while he was still a boy. The type is associated with the date 198 AD, when the young Caracalla was designated “Augustus”. The bust was found in the house of the Vestal Virgins in the Roman Forum, Rome, and is now housed a the Museo Nazionale (Terme), inv. 641.
