Beschrijving
The Hellenistic Ruler, also known as the Hellenistic Prince, is a magnificent bronze statue from the second century BC, housed in the Terme Museum in Rome. Its masterly execution and mysterious portrait have produced an extensive bibliography. The figure has been identified as Philip V of Macedon, Perseus, Alexander Balas, a hero or a Roman general, perhaps Agrippa, so that its date has ranged across three centuries. The body type has often been linked to the lost Alexander with the Lance by Lysippos, though the treatment of the nude and the pose argue against it.
