Beschrijving
The Orpheus head is one of G.F. Watts’s rare preparatory models for his painting Orpheus and Eurydice, which he painted at least three times. In the painting Orpheus twists back to cling to Eurydice as she swoons towards the land of the dead, her body dissolving into the darkness. Watts made three quick plaster models of Orpheus to study the composition and expression while respecting anatomy. His painting and sculpture constantly influenced each other.
