Beschrijving

The Man with the Broken Nose, made around 1863, has a long history. The original plaster froze and the back of the head fell off; Rodin sent the remaining mask to the Salon of 1865 without success, but the marble carved by Léon Fourquet in 1874–75 was accepted in 1875. The sitter was an old workman from Saint-Marcel known as Bibi. By stressing the broken nose and deep lines, Rodin linked the face to Michelangelo’s, turning a portrait into an archetype.

Made to order in the Netherlands and carefully finished by hand. Pick one of 11 sizes (7–48 cm) and the colour that suits your interior, from marble white to gold or bronze. Explore more pieces in our Europa collection.
