This Trapezoforo is a Roman table support brought to Naples from the Villa Madama and restored several times by Carlo Albacini. The front is carved fully in the round between moulded cornices, the sides in high relief. It shows the Homeric myth of Scylla seizing the sailors of Ulysses: the sea monster wraps a lifeless man in her fish-like tail while dogs’ heads attack shipwrecked men. On the other side a centaur carries a small cupid, with an eagle holding a snake above.
