Beschrijving
Adonis is the most handsome and sought-after young man in Greek mythology. His birth was tragic: his mother Myrrha was punished by being turned into a myrrh tree, and when her time came the bark burst open and the infant Adonis came into the world. In a sense he was doomed from the start, and he was killed by a wild boar while still young. The tree on which he leans and the dead hare refer to his birth and his death.
