Altarpiece the assumption of the virgin is a tin-glazed terracotta altarpiece showing the Assumption of the Virgin, a popular theme in 15th- and 16th-century Tuscany. It is attributed to the workshop of Andrea della Robbia and is a modified version of a more complex altarpiece he made for a church at La Verna. It may have been commissioned by the Canigiani family, as it is believed to come from their villa in Tuscany. The Della Robbia were a Florentine family of sculptors and potters, active from the early 15th century into the 16th.
