Ariadne’s Head is a delicate head of slightly rosy white marble, crowned with ivy leaves and small bunches of grapes, identified as Ariadne, a Bacchante or Bacchus. The hair, parted in the middle, falls back in fine wavy locks, with a curl at each temple; the features are fine, the eyes small and the mouth slightly open. According to Du Mège it was found at Martres and kept in the episcopal palace of Rieux; its torso went around 1860 to the collector Victor de Frézals in Toulouse.
