Cleopatra’s Needle, the Central Park Obelisk, was commissioned by the pharaoh Thutmose around 1443 BC. The granite monument is 69 feet tall and weighs about 220 tons. It was given to the United States by Khedive Ismail Pasha and transported from Egypt to Central Park in New York. A striking ancient monument for a desk or garden.
