Beschrijving
Colossal Head Monument is one of the colossal heads of La Venta and, unlike the other three found there, does not have parted lips. The face is harsh, with a prominent frown and furrowed brow, and the helmet bears the Olmec U element above the forehead with three petal-shaped appendages. It was discovered in 1925 by Frans Blom and Oliver La Farge at the base of pyramid C-1, facing south, with large stelae behind it. Together they appear to bound the sacred precinct of the site. The head weighs 24 tons.
