The Crouching Venus with Hand of Cupid is one of several Roman copies of the Greek Crouching Aphrodite, with the original of this version in the Louvre. It was a favourite of Cézanne, who sketched it there and adapted it in one of his Large Bathers. The remains of a small hand on her back presumably belonged to the baby Eros, with whom Aphrodite is often depicted. A graceful and intimate classical nude.
