Deianira and Nessus is a modern abstract limestone sculpture of the myth of Deianira and the centaur Nessus. Nessus tried to carry Deianira off while ferrying her across the river Euenos, but she was saved by Heracles, who shot the centaur with a poisoned arrow. As he lay dying, Nessus persuaded her to keep some of his blood, claiming that mixed with olive oil it would keep Heracles faithful forever. This is the origin of the famous Tunic of Nessus.
