Desire is a high relief by Aristide Maillol. Aristide Maillol (born 1861) was a French sculptor, painter and printmaker from Roussillon who, after years of poverty, entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1885. Almost all his mature works take the female body as their subject, and this relief is a fine example of his classical emphasis on the body and its stable forms.
