Diana with a deer is a modern abstract sculpture of Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt, similar to the Greek Artemis. Daughter of Jupiter and Latona, she was born with her twin brother Apollo on the island of Delos. A goddess of chastity and fertility, and of the moon, her cult spread throughout the Roman empire among nobles and common people alike. Eternally young and beautiful, she was often shown with bow and arrow and accompanied by a deer or hounds, as goddess of both wild and domestic animals. Her temple at Ephesus was one of the wonders of the world.
