Faustina the Elder (AD 100–140), also known as Faustina I, was Roman empress alongside her husband Antoninus Pius. She was respected and renowned for her beauty and wisdom, and supported charities for the poor and the education of Roman children, particularly girls. Her typical hairstyle, with braids pulled back into a bun, set the fashion in the empire for several decades.
