Hathoric pier-capital is one of about 15 Hathoric capitals and stelae found at Amathous, dating from the 6th to the early 5th century BC and linked to the worship of the Cypriot Goddess. The type is inspired by the Egyptian goddess Hathor. Her head rises from a papyrus umbel and is crowned with a model shrine framed by double volutes, with a winged sun disc above. From the shrine emerges the uraeus, the sacred serpent and protective symbol of royal power.
