On this relief, Hercules (Heracles) is killing Geryon, the giant who lived in southern Spain, before stealing his herd of cattle. This is the largest of all of the reliefs. We might be able to see an allusion here to the military triumphs of Emperor Maximianus Hercules in Spain. Perhaps he stayed at Chiragan on this occasion – this would explain the design of all of the large, sculpted décor presented in this section.
