Our Lady of Exile recalls the Marian Column erected in Prague’s Old Town Square in 1652 to commemorate the defence of the city against the Swedes in 1648. Its shadow even served as a time indicator for the Prague Meridian. The statue by Jan Jiří Bendl was torn down in 1918. In 1954 Alessandro Monteleone made a new Carrara marble version, funded by Czechs in exile, which was erected in 1955 at St. Procopius Abbey in Lisle near Chicago.
