Saint Augustine is a full-figure relief by an artist from Lombardy, made at the end of the 13th century for the Church of Sant’Agostino. Augustine of Hippo (354–430) was a Roman African theologian and philosopher from Numidia whose writings shaped Western Christianity and Western philosophy. As bishop of Hippo Regius in North Africa, he is seen as one of the most important Church Fathers. His major works include The City of God, De doctrina Christiana and Confessions.
