Statue of Balarama is a sculpture in the Ganga style, discovered in Bangalore district. Balarama is a Hindu god and the elder brother of Krishna. He is especially important in the Jagannath tradition as one of its three deities. He is also known as Baladeva, Balabhadra, Haladhara and Halayudha; the first two names refer to his strength, the last two to the plough, linking him to farming and farmers. Most texts see him as an avatar of Shesha, while Jayadeva’s Gitagovinda calls him the eighth avatar of Vishnu.
