Statue of matron is a Roman marble statue from the 1st century BCE. It shows the woman in a very traditional way, a type borrowed from late Hellenism and known as pudicitia, or modesty. It is a funerary portrait, originally placed on a tomb along one of the great roads out of Rome. The lower part of the face and the nose are restorations.
