Beschrijving
The adoration of the Empty Throne is a red sandstone relief from a temple or shrine. Before the Buddha was shown in human form in the 1st century AD, he was represented by symbols such as this empty throne, presenting him as a universal spiritual king. The throne bears a Buddhist emblem and is attended by two figures with fly-whisks, flanked by winged-lion capitals.
