The Black Bull of Clarence is one of the Queen’s Beasts, a set of ten heraldic statues made by the sculptor James Woodford for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953. The originals were later offered to Canada, which accepted them in 1959; they now stand in the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec. In 1956 Woodford made a replica set in Portland stone, donated to Kew, where the beasts greet visitors approaching the main entrance of the Palm House.
