The Feast of Herod is a cast of Donatello’s bronze relief of around 1427 on the baptismal font of the baptistery of Siena Cathedral. It is one of Donatello’s earliest reliefs and his first in bronze, measuring 60 by 60 cm, and is famous for its use of perspective. It shows the moment the head of John the Baptist is presented to Herod Antipas, who reacts in shock. The commission for the new font was coordinated by Lorenzo Ghiberti, invited to Siena in 1416 as adviser and designer.
