This Tomb Effigy of a Woman may portray a wealthy widow who joined a religious order after her husband’s death. She wears a loose habit, probably like her burial clothes, and the wrinkles around her eyes suggest her age. Full-length effigies of women holding books were popular in Naples, where the relief probably originated.
