Fragment of a Relief, The Rape of Europa is a small limestone sculpture of a bull carrying a young woman on its back. Dressed in a chiton, she clings to the bull’s horns with her right hand and holds down her floating cloak with her left, suggesting movement. The myth was a popular theme in the ancient Mediterranean and in neoclassical art: Zeus took the form of a white bull to win Europa and carried her across the sea to Crete, where she became the island’s first queen.
Made to order in the Netherlands and carefully finished by hand. Pick one of 11 sizes (7–48 cm) and the colour that suits your interior, from marble white to gold or bronze. Explore more pieces in our Europa collection.
