Grave stele made of Pentelic marble and found in Markopoulo (ancient Hagnous), Attica. The good, chaste Archestrate, beloved by her husband, as we are informed by the epigram on the epistyle of the monument, sits on a stool with a footstool, and takes an object from the little box held out to her by a young woman. Behind Archestrate’s legs can be seen the figure of her young daughter, offering her a little bird that she holds in her right hand.
