Beschrijving
The fluid pose and chest-beating gesture of this Ritual Figure evoke a stately performance. Egyptian reliefs show such figures as part of a troupe of kneeling divine beings with falcon and jackal heads, usually attending the sunrise or the birth and coronation of a king. Three-dimensional figures of this type were placed around the processional shrines of certain gods, no doubt to accompany the deity’s appearance during a procession. This human-headed figure wears the regalia of a pharaoh; some scholars see an actual king, others a mythical being.
