The Statuette of a Baboon is an Egyptian limestone figure in the Hunt Museum in Limerick, squatting with forearms on its knees. A hole in the crown once held a headdress, a gilded sun or moon disc. The smooth face and shoulders point to the Late Period. The baboon was a manifestation of Thoth, moon god of speech, writing, mathematics, astronomy and healing. Baboons were common at the animal necropolis of North Saqqara.
