Bust of Satyr shows a smiling satyr in marble. In Greek mythology a satyr, also called a silenus, is a male nature spirit with the ears and tail of a horse. By the 6th century BC they were usually shown with human legs, mane-like hair, bestial faces and snub noses. Satyrs were lovers of wine, music and dancing and companions of Dionysus, living in woodlands, mountains and pastures.
