This is a head (originally marble) of the young Dionysus (Bacchus), wearing a wreath of ivy leaves and berries. The eyes were inlaid and, on the original, traces of red pigment remain on the face. Found in Lazio, Rome.
The original work is a 2nd Century AD copy of a type popular in the 2nd Century BC. This original is housed at The British Museum (1879,0712.2) – Not on display.
