Head of Agrippina the Elder is a marble portrait of a prominent member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, discovered in Soli. Born around 14 BC, she was the daughter of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, close supporter of Augustus, and of Augustus’ daughter Julia the Elder. Her brothers Lucius and Gaius were Augustus’ adopted heirs until their deaths in AD 2 and 4. Her cousin Germanicus was then adopted by Tiberius, and Agrippina was married to him to bring him closer to the Julian family.
