It takes two is a modern abstract sculpture by Bob Allen of male and female forms joined together, their bodies shaping a heart. It symbolises the bond between man and woman as the beginning of new things. Allen took his inspiration from nature, often carving wood with traditional tools in the open air. This work is a bronze cast of a carving made from a fallen bough of an ancient English yew listed in the Domesday Book. Allen aimed to reveal the hidden quality in the wood; here the female form emerged first, later joined by the male form.
