Lucretia Pompeia is a work by Giovanni Battista Foggini, the most significant sculptor in Florence around 1700, alongside Soldani. Foggini was appointed Court Sculptor to the Medici in 1687 and First Architect seven years later. Trained at the Accademia Fiorentina in Rome, he introduced Roman Baroque influences to Florentine sculpture. He ran the Borgo Pinti foundry, is best known today for his elegant bronzes and also led the Galleria dei Lavori, famous for its Florentine hardstone work.
