Stele of Maitreya Buddha shows Maitreya, the future Buddha of this world, also called Ajita in some texts. Buddhist tradition holds that he will appear on Earth, reach complete enlightenment and teach the pure dharma. Small yet finely carved, the stele has the full iconography of larger works: Maitreya with an incised halo, flanking bodhisattvas, and apsaras and dragons on the flame-shaped mandorla. A 69-character inscription on the back names the donors and dates its dedication to 563.
Made to order and hand-finished in the Netherlands. Choose from 11 sizes, from a 7 cm miniature to a 48 cm statement piece, in marble white, gold, bronze or any colour you like.
