This Marcus Aurelius portrays the emperor of Rome from 161 to 180 (born 121), who ruled with Lucius Verus until Verus’ death in 169. He was the last of the so-called Five Good Emperors. A practitioner of Stoicism, he wrote the work known as Meditations, a key source for our understanding of ancient Stoic philosophy and regarded by many as one of the greatest works of philosophy. A perfect bust for a study or library.
