Mermaid (Havfrue) is a bronze sculpture by the Danish sculptor Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen; the original cast from 1921 is in the SMK’s permanent collection. With her projecting fins, flat nose and fish-like mouth she is more creature than human compared with Edvard Eriksen’s Little Mermaid, made nine years earlier. Her pose is more dynamic and her expression more dramatic: she seems to have just come out of the water, gasping for breath, with terrified eyes and dripping hair.
Made to order in the Netherlands and carefully finished by hand. Pick one of 11 sizes (7–48 cm) and the colour that suits your interior, from marble white to gold or bronze. Explore more pieces in our Europa collection.
