Penguin is a knee-high penguin statue from Portugal Street, in the heart of the London School of Economics campus off the Aldwych. Donated with other animal statues by Louis Odette, philanthropist and former LSE student, it became the students’ unofficial mascot. When it was stolen in 2009, flowers, poems, tins of sardines and Penguin biscuits appeared at the site, and a Facebook campaign tried to find it. In November 2009 a heavier replacement was installed, which remains there today.
