This cast is of a seated male from the south corner of the Parthenon’s East Pediment (438-433 BC). At the centre of the eas pediment was the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus. This figure faces awa from that scene and instead greets the chariot of the rising sun. He is usually identified as Dionysus, though Hercules has also been considered.
