Stone sculpture “The Supplicant” is a small statue in soft stone (agalmatolite) found at the edge of the site Samus IV in Siberia, where it had been buried face down. Samus IV is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites of Northern Eurasia, a meeting place of different cultural traditions. The figure shows a man kneeling in a praying position, his arms close to his body and his back bent. A hole under the knees shows it was worn as a pendant. The realistic, well-proportioned body and finely crafted face show a talented craftsman.
