Shōki capturing a demon with a hat is an ivory netsuke of Shōki, a figure from Chinese and Japanese mythology. He is traditionally seen as a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings, said to command 80,000 demons, and his image is often painted on household gates as a guardian spirit. A witty and finely carved Japanese miniature.
