Beschrijving
The Adoration of the Magi is an altarpiece by the Florentine sculptor Andrea della Robbia (1435–1525), from about 1500–1510. Andrea inherited the workshop of his uncle Luca della Robbia, who developed tin-glazed terracotta for colourful, durable sculpture. Large works like this were made in sections to fit the kiln. The scene shows the Three Kings with attendants offering gifts to the Holy Family in a landscape. The coat of arms of the Albizzi, a prominent Florentine family, appears on the frame, and the shiny surface would have reflected the candlelight in the chapel.
