Beschrijving
The sphinx, with an animal body and a woman’s head, was found near the monument of the Volumni together with its fragments. The Paduan archaeologist Luigi Busato, who first studied the monument before 1888, placed the sphinx on top of it. Later stylistic study excluded this: its rough surfaces and summary features, hairstyle, torso and wings differ from the rest of the decoration. It most likely crowned another funerary monument.
