Thoth shows the ancient Egyptian god with the head of an ibis. Thoth was revered as the god of knowledge, mathematics and the sciences and as scribe to the gods. He recorded the outcome of the weighing of the heart, the ritual performed by Anubis that decided whether the deceased was worthy of the afterlife. A fitting figure for a society that developed sophisticated systems of measuring and writing.
