Torso of a youth is a marble torso, missing its head, forearms and lower legs, that elegantly shows the contrapposto stance credited to Greek sculptors. In this pose the weight rests on one foot, so that the hip shifts slightly forward and brings movement to the body. It most likely depicts a deity or a youthful athlete, a type of statue set up in a sanctuary in honour of the gods.
