Bust of Isis shows a woman emerging from a three-leaf calyx set on a globe, with Hellenic facial features. She wears an ancient Egyptian headdress with a serpent and globe flanked by two ears of corn, a fringed shawl knotted at the front and a sausage-curl hairstyle. The hollow pupils may once have been inlaid with dark stone or glass. The original bronze dates to the high Roman Empire, around the 2nd century CE, when the cult of the Egyptian goddess Isis spread throughout the Mediterranean and was at the height of its popularity.
