Bust of Virginia Woolf is a portrait of Adeline Virginia Woolf (1882–1941), the British writer seen as one of the most important modernist authors of the 20th century and a pioneer of the stream of consciousness. She was born into a wealthy household in South Kensington, London, the seventh child in a blended family of eight. Her mother Julia Stephen was a celebrated Pre-Raphaelite artist’s model, her father Leslie Stephen a notable man of letters, and her sister the painter Vanessa Bell. The family’s summer home in St Ives, Cornwall, where she first saw the Godrevy Lighthouse, inspired her novel To the Lighthouse (1927).
